On Wednesday, the Minnesota Supreme Court rejected an attempt to block 2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump from the primary ballot.
A bipartisan group of Minnesota voters alleged that under the 14th Amendment, which states that US officials who take an oath of office are banned from future office positions if they "engaged in insurrection," Trump was barred from being on the primary ballot, according to CNN.
In the four-page ruling, the justices wrote, "There is no state statute that prohibits a major political party from placing on the presidential nomination primary ballot, or sending delegates to the national convention supporting, a candidate who is ineligible to hold office."
The high court dismissed the case, but said that it wouldn’t stop the group from "bringing a petition raising their claims as to the general election."
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement that the decision "is further validation of the Trump Campaign’s consistent argument that the 14th Amendment ballot challenges are nothing more than strategic, un-Constitutional attempts to interfere with the election."
These lawsuits, including ongoing ones in Colorado and Michigan, "should be summarily thrown out wherever they next arise," Cheung said.
